Get a Haircut and Get a Real Job!!

The fine folks at the ncwsa have a job posting listed on their website for a web dude, which naturally leads us at the CRB to think to ourselves, who would be the best for that job?

Well, If any of you have searched around the waterski blog world, and no...shnitzs blog doesn't count, you would have hopefully happened upon our buddy Rykert.

You can simply judge by the fine mspaint job on that jump picture to the right that he is freaking awesome with the graphic design and that without a doubt makes him the right man for the job.

Of course, judging by his not posting for the last 5 months or something, maybe he doesn't have enough time on his hands....of course, it could also mean...he has ENOUGH time on his hands!!

Some Country for Old Men

Because he is freaking awesome at skiing, Jaret Llewellyn was named male skier of the year by Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (eh?)!!

For the dudes, Whitney McClintock was named female athlete of the year by the same oddly named organization.

Whats more entertaining about these two announcments though, besides the fun Canadian accents, was that while McClintock is a young up and comer, Mr. Llewellyn is freaking 37 years old!!!

He is almost 20 years older then Whitney, and that my friends, fills the CRB with a ton of hope!!

See, its ok to get old, you can still kick ass!! and it doesn't look like Jaret is going anywhere anytime soon, probably cause he is in a rocking chair on the porch, "GET OFF MY LAWN!!"

"This was a crucial year in determining whether I would pursue my career," said Llewellyn, 37, who completed his 24th season on the national team."

Oh really? You are now just considering this as a career? Damn fine hobby then Mr. Llewellyn!!

So, seeing as this old man is still out there getting it done, it begs the question, where the hell are you Mr. Sammy Duvall? Get after it!!

Really, what else could have possibly went on? What? Good skiing? sure, but we get that everywhere. Sex, Drugs, etc...sure...why not. however, we don't normally see trick skiers hit jump ramps.

The Ski Show in the Sky

To those of you with even a rudimentary understanding of the history of Show Skiing, or simply waterskiing for that matter, certainly know the name Dick Pope Jr.

Well, the man widely credited with popularizing the sport of waterskiing and the son of Cypress Gardens founder Dick Pope Sr, passed away at the age of 77 from cancer.

Dick Pope Jr., the son of the founders of Cypress Gardens and who is credited with helping to popularize water skiing, died Thursday night. He was 77. Pope died from pancreatic cancer at about 10 p.m. at his home in Winter Haven, Fla.

Also linked from the Usa waterski post is a neat biography that was written about him for his introduction into the waterski hall of fame. Of note is this line:

Although he liked slalom and jumping better than tricks, he perfected several ramp tricks and introduced the 540 turn on the rap in 1952 in his last tournament before joining the Marine Corps.

Really? A 540 on the ramp in 1952...and then joined the Marines? Damn this guy was good!

The CRB members have a weird-o attachment to the Dick Pope Jr, as his skis have served our step-off ski needs for a number of years, and growing up you never really understood what a legend someone like this was. You just knew he was better then the rest of us, it was just assumed. No one questioned that there were skis named after someone, it was just understood.

But on the bright side, bet that heaven has a whole fleet of sweet new equipment and lakes to use at will.

What is an "October Athlete"?

We are guessing that this is similar to the Mr. October stuff in baseball, but, the USAWaterski peeps unveiled, unleashed, whatever, their October Athletes of the month, Danyelle Bennett and Ian Trapp.

Which begs the question, what the hell is an "October Athlete"?

Well, lets see., the WIKI man says,

October is the tenth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with a length of 31 days. In the northern hemisphere, October is commonly associated with the season of autumn. October begins in western tropical astrology with the sun in the sign of Libra and ends in the sign of Scorpio. So, Danyelle and Ian are Gregorian Skiers with western tropical astrology with some libra and virgo shit thrown in for good measure.

We always thought that both these people were pretty cool anyways, not having really ever met them, but, you know...good skiers and all but now? POW!! They are freaking OCTOBER SKIERS!
